Cockroaches, kinds of cockroaches, cockroach extermination
One of the most important things that should be known about the cockroaches - these dangerous carriers of infectious diseases is that there is no detergent, which could effect their unhatched eggs.
That is why, in order for the struggle against them to be effective, it should be implemented by qualified specialists, through certified detergents, meeting the European quality and safety requirements. The fact that for the achieving of a durable effect it is necessary that periodical treatments are executed also should not be disregarded.
The following things are of a great importance for the appropriate struggling against them: the type and the area of the site, the population of insects, as well as the particular variety of cockroaches.
Cockroaches pass through an incomplete development: OVUM>NYMPH>IMAGO - They move actively (horizontally and vertically at their own pace), or passively (through luggage carrying, food products, electrical appliances, etc.).
There are over 3500 known varieties of cockroaches, and 1% of them live near people.
The following kinds of cockroaches could be found most often:
Blackbeetle (oriental cockroach) (Blatta orientalis)
As the actual name suggests, this cockroach is coloured black. It reaches a size of 20-28 mm, there could also rarely be seen larger specimens. They prefer inhabiting sewers, basements, lower floors and other damp spaces with a temperature of 20-27˚C. Sometimes they could also be found in the open on branches, leaves, near residential buildings, etc. The female precipitates 7-8 capsules (oothecae), each of which contains 16-18 eggs, near food at a protective place. The life duration is about 180 days.
Crotonbug (german cockroach) (Blattela germanica)
This is the most widespread and at the same time one of the smallest cockroaches, which makes it a real cosmopolitan. It can be found in lodgings with a central heating, as well as in rooms abounding food, where the optimal temperature is about 30C.
It breeds by eggs, precipitated in capsules (oothecae). The female carries the capsule for 1 to 4 weeks until the nymphs incubate. Each capsule contains 35-45 eggs, and through its life every female can precipitate 4 to 8 capsules. The complete maturing of specimens lasts for over 125 days. They live between 100 days and 1 year.
Brown-banded (furniture) cockroach
It is a cosmopolitan variety and is spread only in lodgings, whereas its name. It is diffucult to discern and besides furniture, it also prefers places with books. It releases 10-20 capsules with 16 eggs each. The mature specimen lives for 90-120 days.
American cockroach (Periplaneta Americana)
Its wings are coloured chestnut-brownish, and it has yellow spots on its chest. It inhabits mainly harbour cities and ships. Sometimes it could also be found in the open. It runs to 35-40 mm in size.
The female shapes a capsule, which it fastens through secretion to a preliminarily chosen spot. It precipitates 21-59 capsules, each of which containing 16-28 eggs. Its life's duration is 100 days to 2years.
Australian cockroach (Periplaneta Australasiae)
This cockroach is very widespread, but it is not found in Bulgaria. This variety breeds best at a temperature of 30-36˚C. The development period for eggs in the oothecae passes for about 40 days. Every female reproduces about 200 cockroaches early. They reach 32 mm in length. They prefer a warm climate and can be found chiefly in greenhouses.
Smokybrown cockroach (Periplaneta Fuliginosa)
This cockroach cannot be found in Bulgaria either, but it is widespread throughout the world on a mass scale. They breed best at 30-33˚C. The period for eggs' development in the oothecae varies between 37-74 days. The numbers of every female's offspring amount about 300 cockroaches per year. They reach 35 mm in length. The climate they prefer is warm and humid, and they mainly penetrate in buildings in the near gardens.
