Brown rat
The brown rat reaches up to 25 cm in length and up to 600 grams in weight. It has a blunt snout and a thick tail. The common domestic or brown rat is an excellent swimmer-it stands staying in water up to 72 hours and it even penetrates homes through drain pipes. It can jump to a height of up to 60 ñm, it breeds during the whole year. It reaches its sexual maturity towards its third month, and its pregnancy lasts for 20-25 days. There are up to 10 youngs born. They usually give birth to up to 5 offsprings per year. They prefer inhabiting basements, storehouses and drainage systems.
