Fleas, types of fleas

Fleas number over 1500 varieties and are widely distributed all over the world. They are wingless bloodsucking insects, living parasitically on the warm-blooded species, including humans.

The most widespread fleas in Bulgaria are the:
     - dog flea ;
     - cat flea ;
     - human flea ;

Fleas are characterized with the blood-sucking by both male, and female specimens for a duration of 1 minute to several hours. They feed several times in a day and night. Fleas are the carriers of a number of diseases, the most important of which are: the bubonic plague, tularemia and the endemic murine typhus.
